Electrolyte Lemonade
It’s one of those days that the gift of the Sun is reminding you of its powerful glory all day long. Hot outside, hot inside; hot hot hot! It reminds me of growing up in Virginia, whereas kids we would either run to the pool for relief from the heat or stay inside with the AC turned on. The only time this humidity was invited was dusk, when the moon was dawning and the fireflies would begin to seduce the night air. But that’s not the case here in San Diego. Many houses here don’t have A/C and nothing less than a dip in the icy Pacific will cool you off.
On such a day in late August, why not replenish your body with this refreshing lemonade? The electrolytes and Vitamin C will give your body an extra rejuvenating boost to help cool off any unwelcome lingering heat.
Electrolytes are chemical substances which, when dissolved or lost in sweat, are missing the electrically charged particles or ions. Many normal bodily functions are dependent on these substances. Normal body functions, not to mention performance, are severely compromised if adequate levels of electrolytes are not present, especially in the heat.
The electrolytes that are produced from citrus are easily assimilated. The lemon and oil detoxify while boosting the immune system. Citrus pectin restores absorption of fats. Add other fruits to enhance flavor, such as peach or apple.
Grapefruit has a whole host of nutritional benefits:
Grapefruit is a rich source of Vitamin C
