Gorgeous Green Smoothie
It is HOT out there! For those of us in San Diego, the heat just keeps coming!! Perhaps you, like myself, are acclimating (a bit) to this weather. I’ve just slowed my roll this past month. Simple as that, when I am able, I am not doing nearly as much. Though I find myself uncomfortable at times, I also find myself just sitting and being more so I don’t overwork myself and am not running around exposed in the Sun. Yesterday, I took a dip down by the seashore.
How do you manage in the heat? How does it affect you?
A friend who farms a hydroponic garden and was speaking about the heat. He stated how this year is the infamous El Nino, a climate pattern that occurs across the tropical Pacific Ocean about every 5 years. With the heat of El Nino, lies the other side of its effects- increased rainfall in winter months. I, personally, was very excited when I heard about that! Living in San Francisco for 5 years and growing up on the East Coast, I am so excited about any weather! Change in weather!
I am such a firm believer in our need to cycle through nature’s seasons. Though it’s surely nature’s grace in perfection that 4 seasons don’t exist everywhere, I feel so nourished by the distinct cycling of Nature’s growth.
As the sun rises each morning and the moon restores us by night, we are blessed with life, breath, family, friends, food, shelter, and many other prosperous treasures. We give thanks to ourselves and the Earth, to bask in the abundance of produce available in this region of the country, and then maybe do a rain dance come sundown!
Here are some ways I stay cool (literally and figuratively):
Massage coconut oil on the soles of your feet before bed
Drink coconut water and other beverages ROOM temp. (ice cold drinks shock the system and weaken your digestive juices).
Wear light cool clothes that allow the breeze to pass through.
Avoid overexposure to the Sun (esp between 10 am- 2 pm during hottest time of day)
Spend time at the Ocean
Take a leisurely stroll in the evening when the air cools. (One of my absolutely most enjoyable things I do!)
Avoid hot & spicy foods
Avoid overstimulation from computers, cell phones, television, and loud music.
Slow your roll: mentally, emotionally, physically.
Here’s the Green Smoothie I made today to support this process!! If you are not used to using green powders in your smoothies, the color may be daunting, but let me assure you, your body will be so pleased! When I don’t put my greens in my smoothie, I down a Tbs. of greens with some lemon juice and stevia every morning to promote good digestion, natural energy, strengthened immunity, anti-inflammation in the body, and much more!
